A bicycle tour to Lofoten and Vesterålen, Norway
dansk
Mountain at the bottom of Morfiord, Austvågøy, Lofoten
© Ole Jacobi July 1993
The sun is shining, it is warm and the snow is melting and the water
is running down the mountains. When the sun is in the right angle you can
se a mountainside shining from running water. If you follow a small road
along the northern coast of Austvågøy you will come to some
deep fiords. One of these fiords is called Morfjorden with a great mountain
at the bottom. In another fiord there is a dam and a wide beach.
Approaching Svolvær, you have to follow a main road with heavy,
noisy traffic. Svolvær is a town with many cars and big supermarkets,
but next to Svolvær you will find the peaceful town of Kabelvåg
with the museum Storvågan. Here you will find an old trading post
with buildings from the last century and an atmosphere as in a book by
Hamsun. Here are some buildings called Rorbuer. They were used as lodgings
for the fishermen in Lofoten, with room for one crew in each building.
