A bicycle tour to Lofoten and Vesterålen, Norway                                                                               dansk  Sildpollen

From Sortland you can bicycle up over the mountain to the west and down to Eidsfjorden on the other side. You will come through a valley with many farms. It is surprising how fertile the country is and how many farms you see. The trees even grow a bit up the mountains in spite of the fact that we are on the 69th degree of latitude. That is the same degree of latitude as Jakobshavn in Greenland.

Sildpollen is a locality in Eidsfjorden. Pollen is a name that is often used by the Norwegian author Knut Hamsun, and Sildpollen with its old white buildings looks like a place where merchant Mack from one of Hamsuns novels might have lived.
