A Bicycle Trip to Shetland and Orkney Isles
July 2002
Girdle Ness, Aberdeen, Scotland © Ole Jacobi July 2002
The ship departs at 5 pm, so we spend the morning and afternoon looking around Aberdeen in a slight drizzle. Old Aberdeen is idyllic and quiet with a strong academic flavour, and in the middle of the busiest part of the city, we find the oldest house in town. Provost Skene's House with lovely period interiors from the 16., 17. & 18. Centuries.
Arrived on board ship, we proceed to the Viking Restaurant where we order the set dinner which has many items on the menu, not all very good. In the evening we are entertained by an impromptu performance by a Scottish folk music group with many young and old fiddlers and two guitarists. They are very good, and we enjoy them thoroughly.
