Today we take the boat from Lerwick to Kirkwall on Orkney which leaves at 12 and arrives in Kirkwall at 8 pm. To be on the safe side, we have booked a room in Kirkwall on Harbour Street, right across from the ferry landing, but we might as well not have bothered, as Kirkwall abounds in hotels and B&Bs. The day trip on the ferry is very pleasant, with the weather turning almost perfect towards evening, and no wind to bother anyone.
