Monday 11. October
Another beautiful morning and another start on a big busy road (23) with many trucks, a lot of noise and some danger for bicyclists. Fortunately we find a small road a few kms west of Morgantown, and we are now moving into beatiful farmland with big rolling hills, many large farms where the washing lines and the horse-drawn buggies proclaim this to be Amish country, as well as the horses working in the fields. We have encountered Amish communities many years ago in Ohio, but not on such a grand scale as here, where all the farms seem to belong to the Amish community. We arrive at Morgantown at 2:30 and stop for Ice tea and soup at a pizzeria. It´s a nice little town, and we decide to stop here for tonight at a hotel on the main street. There are several Amish stores to explore, and for dinner we go to a large cafeteria in a mall on the outskirts of the town, where there are also many Amish people, easily recognizable by their clothes, the women in handmade flowered or plain dresses with small caps on their heads, the men in homespun trousers with braces and black hats. We haven´t travelled very far today (25 kms), but it´s nice to relax a bit and look at the people and the landscapes.
