A Trip to Scotland and the Western

This is the day we fly home, we have to be at the Airport at 3:30, so we
have planned several visits to Charles Rennie MacIntosh exhibitions, but
as it turns out, this Monday is a Bank Holiday, so everything is closed.
Disappointed with our bad luck, we still enjoy sitting in the University
Park with a wonderful view of the city. The university is the oldest in
England, we're told, from 1451, before Oxford and Cambridge. We do get
to see the Art School, designed by McIntosh, and still used for its original
purpose. A lovely building with many charming details.
On the way to the airport in the afternoon, we pass MacIntosh’s "House
for an Art Lover", the recent realisation of the drawings McIntosh entered
for a architectural competition in Vienna in 1906 for a "Haus eines Künstlers".
He did not win the competition, and the house was not built until the 1990s,
when it was designed as a museum inspired by McIntosh’s original drawings.
Around the house is a lovely garden which is in full flower in the sun
today. It is perhaps a bit too crammed with colours, perhaps not quite
in the McIntosh style.
The journey home via London is quite uneventful, the only thing to
note is that the Danish railways are still not functioning properly more
than a fortnight after the opening of the bridge to Sweden.
